Aside from mainstream and national chains, there are some quaint and very popular places around the state that are worth spending the whole day in.

Opened in 2006, this little coffee shop has quickly become a favorite because of the friendly staff and great drinks. Owners Roger and Heather Dolan use only the best organic ingredients and special grinding machines to create a selection of great drinks that include over 40 teas and smoothies. They also have a great breakfast and lunch menu that feature items from local farms. There’s definitely something for everyone here.
Taylor Books, Charleston, WV
Boasting to be Charleston’s only independent bookstore, Taylor Books is also a café, art gallery, and coffee shop. Located downtown, you can explore the beautiful handmade crafts and artwork displayed there, browse through a wide selection of hard-to-find books and magazines, and enjoy a great cup of coffee with one of their fresh-baked pastries.
Blue Moose Café, Morgantown, WV
There are many things to love about the Blue Moose Café, including the coffee. Truly a cultural and entertainment center, Blue Moose has organic house blend coffees prepared with a special Swiss Water Process that offers mind and body health benefits. It’s only right that there’s a coffee shop somewhere in West Virginia that’s called Almost Heaven, and once you taste the coffee here, you’ll know why. Originally opened as a source for wholesale desserts and other bakery products, Almost Heaven has become a popular destination spot. Besides being able to enjoy a great cup of coffee, visitors can purchase special occasion cakes and other delicacies in person or online. TipTop might be located in one of West Virginia’s smaller places, but it’s worth the trip. They have a Sunday brunch and live music on weekends, too, and a special selection of gourmet chocolates for purchase. You can’t go wrong with coffee and chocolate!
Dirt Bean, Marlinton, WV
Located not too far from The Greenbrier, this small mountain town boasts some of the best coffee in the state. With a name like Dirt Bean, you wouldn’t think so, but visitors will find healthy menu options and free Wi-Fi. Listed as a Mexican/Fusion restaurant, you won’t want to miss trying this place.
Black Dog Coffee, Shenandoah Junction, WV
According to the owner, it’s not the fancy name of a place or calling something gourmet that makes coffee great. It’s all in the bean. In this delightfully unique coffee shop, you can watch coffee being ground in a vintage 1931 Jabez Burns & Sons roasting machines. If you want to enjoy a superb cup of coffee and get a little history, too, this is the place to visit.
